Our History Our Focus Our Mission
In 1892, a number of Kentucky's most prominent doctors and civic leaders came together to fight tuberculosis. Their efforts led to the charter of a nonprofit charitable health organization that would eventually come to be called the American Lung Association of Kentucky. |
Nearly a century later, as Kentucky's oldest nonprofit health agency, the scope our mission has expanded far beyond tuberculosis. Our work now includes a focus on promoting lung health and fighting all types of lung disease, including lung cancer, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, influenza, and asthma. Through funding of medical research, school education programs, stop smoking clinics, support groups, clean air initiatives, and patient assistance, we have made great strides against lung disease. However, much still remains to be done. |
Today, with the prevalence and death rate of asthma skyrocketing, and with our state consistently leading the nation in percentage of youth and adults who smoke, our efforts are more important than ever. We invite and encourage you to join us as a supporter in the fight to keep lung disease from compromising the lives of children, adults and their families throughout Kentucky.
